Inaugural exhibition line-up for west side space includes contemporary shows mounted by Bidwell Projects and the Cleveland Museum of Art
CLEVELAND (November 27, 2012) – Transformer Station, the private art venue owned and operated by the Fred and Laura Ruth Bidwell Foundation on Cleveland’s west side creates a new space for arts and culture in Northeast Ohio. A recently renovated transit substation of the now defunct Cleveland Railway Company, Transformer Station is an 8,000 square foot museum in Cleveland’s Ohio City neighborhood and provides an opportunity for additional exposure for contemporary art to Northeast Ohio. Bidwell Projects collection, which focuses on contemporary photography and photo-based art, and the Cleveland Museum of Art will share the space and the calendar of events and exhibitions on an annual basis for six months each. Both Bidwell Projects and the Cleveland Museum of Art will feature internationally recognized contemporary artists in Transformer Station programming.
“Laura and I are very excited about our opening year line-up of shows which reflect the ambition of this project to share world-class artists and ideas and to inspire creativity and innovation,” said Fred Bidwell, co-founder and director of the Bidwell Foundation. “We have really enjoyed becoming part of the Ohio City community and now we are pleased to welcome everyone to see this new space and explore the neighborhood as we have.”

Employment Opportunity: Gallery Manager

The Transformer Station is looking for a full-time Gallery Manager to start in January of 2013. Qualified candidates will have a BA in Art History and an ability to manage a wide variety of duties including reception, visitor relations and education, coordination and management of volunteers, registrar and art preparator duties and artist and gallery relations. Meet the neighbors: Rising Star Coffee Roasters

Just across the street form the Transformer Station is one of the best cups of coffee between New York and Seattle. Rising Star Coffee Roasters supplies restaurants and institutions with its direct trade coffees and, earlier this year, opened it's shop in the Ohio City Firehouse as a unique cafe.
The experience here is more like being in a wine bar than a coffee shop because the offerings change often in order to provide the best, freshest coffees. These single-origin specialty roasts are exactingly prepared in a variety of exotic ways by their very friendly and knowledgable staff. Don't wait for the Transformer Station to open to visit Rising Star, but come back often to our corner to get some visual and caffeinated stimulation.

Transformer Station acquires additional green space

The Transformer Station is adding to its footprint in Ohio City by acquiring the lot south of the original building. This additional space will be landscaped and kept green in order to enhance the neighborhood and add flexibility for future projects such as outdoor art installations and events.
